"Human Rights in Action" - Promote Human Rights in Youth Work, Training Course in Moldova December 2008 In 2008 the United Nation’s Declaration of Human Rights saw its 60th anniversary. It was for this reason that Interlog e.V. and its Moldovan partner organisation “Youth Generation” organized a training course on Human Rights and its importance in youth work. The training took part in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. 28 participants form all over Europe gathered there and discussed issues like the Human Rights situation in the respective countries and about possibilities of how to implement the subject into youth work.
The training was opened with getting-to-know activities as well as warm-ups and team-building games. This helped everybody to get into the training very fast. The first sessions were followed by inputs on history and philosophy of Human Rights. Among other topics the question whether Human Rights are universal or limited through cultural differences was discussed. Of special interest were also the excursions in Chisinau where we visited the local dependence of Amnesty International in Moldova where a local representative gave an impression about the situation in Moldova. Which practical relevance Human Rights have was made clear in role play in which participants had to play border guards and refugees. During the role play it was very soon very clear how complicated the transfer of ideas into reality can be. Of course there have also been the traditional international evenings in which participants were able to present their countries culture and customs. And of course there were possibilities for the participants to explore the Moldovan capital Chisinau as well. The highlight was a traditional Moldovan dinner. At the end of the project there was time and space for developing own project ideas for our participants. The focus was put on the implementation of the Human Rights topic into youth work. A number of projects was developed and we hope that they soon will be applied. Last not least we want to thank the German National Agency of Youth in Action – Programme who financially and ideally supported us in this project!
